The Anderton Centre & Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative

The Organisation
The Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative is a fantastic regional charity whose mission is to encourage the beneficial use of the outdoor environment, particularly young people and community groups, through participation in a growing range of water and land based residential and day visit outdoor learning activities. Operations are currently primarily based at the Anderton Centre with sole access to the Lower Rivington Reservoir, near Chorley in Lancashire. The Centre boasts an up to date 70 bed accommodation wing, excellent conferencing and training facilities plus a wonderful lakeside frontage with boathouse. The Centre now hosts over 11,000 visits per year with guests taking part in a wide range of outdoor activities, team personal development and other high quality training programmes.
The organisation is now seeking an accomplished leader and manager who can successfully consolidate the financial position of the organisation and provide support to the team and further enhance the quality of the Lancashire Outdoor Activity Initiative offering in line with the strategic plan.

The Role
The new role of Chief Officer will be exciting and challenging. The organisation wishes to extend its reach and profile within the Outdoor Education sector whilst increasing the depth and sustainability of the activities, facilities and services that it currently delivers. This needs to be done whilst maintaining an excellent team culture and supporting a positive and vibrant sense of purpose.
The person appointed will need to demonstrate a track record of successful leadership and an understanding of both strategic development and operational delivery. The role will be responsible for identifying, securing and maintaining new income streams as well as ensuring the existing funding is stable and sufficient for the charity’s needs.

The Person
The Chief Officer will need to be an inspiring, competent and collaborative manager with a track record of successful leadership, ideally but not necessarily in the charity sector and with significant management experience in an outdoor education environment.
Comfortable with managing change in a dynamic environment, you will need to have first class communication skills with the ability and enthusiasm to take others with you, whilst acting as an important ambassador for the organisation at all times.
You will also need experience of fundraising activity and the role will suit someone highly motivated, able to adapt quickly and thrive under pressure.
