Dinghy Sailing Adult Level 2 – Basic Skills

This is the perfect course if you have done your Start Sailing (Level 1), or have the equivalent level of ability, and ready to take your skills further. You will continue to refine your sailing with as much time as possible afloat in a variety of dinghies. You will become independently responsible of the full process of getting on the water and for making good decisions once afloat. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a nationally recognised level 2 certificate accredited by the Royal Yachting Association.

Course Content:

During the RYA dinghy sailing level 2 course you will build on the skills and knowledge of the level 1 course and you will cover the following:

  • Rigging
  • Launching
  • Sailing in all directions
  • Capsize Recovery
  • Sailing Theory
  • Essential safety knowledge

This will be covered using a variety of techniques including simulator work, practical exercises and classroom based learning. Our staff are highly experienced instructors who will endeavour to make the course an enjoyable and memorable experience.

RYA Level 2 Dinghy Syllabus

Pre-course requirements:

  • Sailing skills to the standard of Level 1
  • You must be over 16 to take part in this course.


The Anderton  Centre will provide wetsuits and  buoyancy aids. Additional kit you may wish to bring include:

  • Swimwear & a towel
  • Warm outdoor wear, hat , gloves etc
  • Sun cream
  • Drinks bottle / flask
  • Packed lunch
  • Trainers you don’t mind getting wet / wetboots
  • Any medication you require
