We are looking for a passionate cook to join the team at the Anderton Centre. The main function of this role will be to assist the Head Chef with food preparation and service on a day to day basis and will suit someone with a real passion for food and all aspects of cookery.

The Anderton Centre is a charity run outdoor activity and conference centre based in Rivington on the edge of Chorley and Bolton providing residential and day visits to a wide range of clients from corporate delegates to primary school groups.

Duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Menu development
  • General kitchen duties including cleaning
  • Deputy Head Chef during absences.

The successful candidate:

  • Will be confident in all areas of a kitchen and food service.
  • Able to approach the role with a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Have a good understanding of the food industry and current food trends.
  • Previous experience in fresh food establishment (min 1 year).
  • Able to work flexibly to suit the business needs.
  • Will hold a basic food hygiene certificate.


Working Hours: 30 hours per week –  5 days out of 7. This will include some evenings and weekends. Rotas are produced a week in advance. Overtime available as and when required. Hours negotiable.

Salary: £8.00 per hour

20 Days Holiday + 8 bank holidays per year.

The Anderton Centre is currently undergoing a period of growth and due to increased business, we are now looking to recruit a capable, friendly admin support and communications person to assist the team.

Duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Inputting client information onto the CRM system.
  • Producing reports.
  • Producing quotes and invoices.
  • Dealing with enquires over the phone and email.
  • Providing cover for reception as required.
  • Taking minutes and notes during meetings.
  • Ordering stationary.
  • Updating social media and website.
  • Supporting the management team as required.

Essential criteria:

  • Highly literate and numerate with strong proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft packages and be comfortable with learning new systems.
  • Able to work effectively as a point of liaison in a warm, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Previous experience in a customer service and/or administration role in a sports or leisure environment is desirable but not essential.

Working Hours: 22.5h per week – 3 days per week, some weekend work may be required.

Salary: £8.75 per hour

We are on the lookout for talented outdoor instructors for our 2018 season at the Anderton Centre.

You will need:

  • A passion for the great outdoors.
  • Brilliant interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of working with children, young people, youth groups and adults and groups with additional needs.
  • A good range of National Governing Body qualifications – i.e. Level 2 Paddlesport, SPA, HML or equivalent.

The Anderton Centre & Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative

The Organisation

The Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative is a thriving regional charity whose mission is to encourage the beneficial use of the outdoor environment, particularly young people and community groups, through participation in a growing range of water and land based residential and day visit outdoor learning activities. Operations are currently primarily based at the Anderton Centre with sole access to the Lower Rivington Reservoir, near Chorley in Lancashire. The Centre boasts an up to date 70 bed accommodation wing, excellent conferencing and training facilities plus a wonderful lakeside frontage with boathouse. The Centre now hosts over 11,000 visits per year with guests taking part in a wide range of outdoor activities, team personal development and other high quality training programmes.

The organisation is now seeking an accomplished leader and manager who can successfully consolidate the financial position of the organisation and provide support to the team and further enhance the quality of the Lancashire Outdoor Activity Initiative offering in line with the strategic plan.

The Role

The new role of Chief Executive will be exciting and challenging. The organisation wishes to extend its reach and profile within the Outdoor Education sector whilst increasing the depth and sustainability of the activities, facilities and services that it currently delivers. This needs to be done whilst maintaining an excellent team culture and supporting a positive and vibrant sense of purpose.

The person appointed will need to demonstrate a track record of successful leadership and an understanding of both strategic development and operational delivery. The role will be responsible for identifying, securing and maintaining new income streams as well as ensuring the existing funding is stable and sufficient for the charity’s needs.

The Person

The Chief Executive will be an inspiring, competent and collaborative manager with a track record of successful leadership, and demonstrate significant management experience,  ideally but not necessarily in the charity sector and/or an outdoor education environment .

Comfortable with managing change in a dynamic environment, you will need to have first class communication skills with the ability and enthusiasm to take others with you, whilst acting as an important ambassador for the organisation at all times.

You will also need experience of fundraising activity and the role will suit someone highly motivated, able to adapt quickly and thrive under pressure.
